457 visa integrity reforms 14 September 2009
The below reforms are designed to enhance the integrity of the program and ensure the program continues to provide the necessary skills.
These reforms include:
-a new Sponsorship Obligations regime
-a new system for the payment of salary to Subclass 457 visa holders
-a stronger sanctions regime, including civil penalties
-new arrangements for the payment of health costs for 457 visa holders.

Students and GSM
The criteria for grant of GSM visas will be continusly changing in response to the changing economic circumstances of Australia. International students should note that any changes to the criteria for the grant of a GSM visa would not affect their Student visa conditions. But students should not make educational choices solely on the basis of hoping to achieve a particular migration outcome, as the GSM program will continue to change and adapt to Australia’s economic needs. We wish you to be aware of this circumstances when deciding for student visas.
